James Edward Stallings

James Edward Stallings, 88 was born April 17, 1928 at Weona, Arkansas and passed from this life April 1, 2017 at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. He was a faithful member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and an usher. He was a member of the brotherhood and the men’s prayer breakfast.
James grew up in the Harrisburg area and moved to Caraway as a young man. He owned Central Oil in Caraway for 10 years, and moved to Jonesboro in the 90’s. He was an avid fisherman and garderner. James was preceded in death by his father, Milo Stallings; mother, Mary Simpson Stallings; one brother, Wesley (Buck) Stallings; grandson, Joshua Kelems, granddaughter, Tracey Austin; great granddaughter, Ashlin Rene Emery; father and mother-in-law, Willie (Bill) and Mary Layton Boatman.
James is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geneva Boatman Stallings of the home; two daughters, Linda (Danny) Austin and Glenda Kelems Wells, both of Caraway; grandchildren, Jonathan Kelems, Jennifer (Ricky) Smith, Timothy Austin, Justin (Courtney) Kelems, and eleven great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Leo Stallings of Caraway and three sisters Laura Bell Minnick and Altie Miles of Lunsford and Ruth Oberg of Harrisburg; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 2-4pm at Emerson Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Monday, April 3, 2017 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jerry Jolly officiating. Burial will follow at Caraway Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are John David Oberg, Don Oberg, Mike Bell, John Northcutt, Glenn Boone and Ricky Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be The Young at Heart Sunday School Class and the deacons of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church.
