James Harold Daniel, 86, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Monday, May 25, 2020, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
James was born in Walnut Ridge and lived much of his life there before moving to Jonesboro about 20 years ago. James worked several years for Jansen Feed & Seed in Walnut Ridge before beginning a 48-year career with Farm Services, Inc. in 1969. He retired as sales manager in 2017 and almost daily ate his lunch at Heard's Market near Portia.
James was a former member of First Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge and is presently a member of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. James enjoyed taking leisure business trips to the Gulf with his friends and customers to deep-sea fish as well as trout fishing on the White River. But without question, James' greatest joy was watching, encouraging and cheering on his grandchildren and great grandchildren in all of their varied sports, endeavors and activities. In town, out-of-town, near and far the distance was not too great to be with his busy family. James was preceded in death by his parents: James Crawford Daniel and Agnes Jones Daniel; one sister, Ruby Daniel King; and three brothers: Edwin, J.W. and Ray Daniel.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years: Cleata Crain Daniel of the home;
one daughter and son-in-law: Karen and Tommy White; and
two sons and daughters-in-law: David and Beverly Daniel, and Stan and Maria Daniel, all of Jonesboro;
6 grandchildren and their spouse: Matt and Jennifer Daniel of Jonesboro; Josh and Nicole Daniel of Little Rock, Dustin and Maria White of Jonesboro, Meredith and Drew Copeland of Jonesboro, Madison and Josh Allison of Jonesboro, and Zac White of Little Rock; and
10 great grandchildren: Finley Daniel, Bauer Daniel, Steele Daniel, Brett Daniel, Davis Copeland, Sam Copeland, Rory Allison, Ellis James Allison, Gabby White and Alexa White.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Emerson Memorial Chapel with John Martin Durham officiating. Eulogies will be delivered by Bob Dixon and Larry Singleton. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 12:30 p.m. until service time in the chapel.
Active pallbearers include Larry Jones, Dallas Roberts, Roger Tinsley, Jerry Davis, Erik Hearnes, Jim Jansen, Don Alls and Andrew Jones. Honorary pallbearers include Matt Daniel, Josh Daniel, Dustin White, Zac White, Drew Copeland and Josh Allison.
The latest Arkansas Health Department Directives for large gatherings in the state allows Emerson Funeral Home Chapel to accommodate a maximum of 150 persons simultaneously. Face coverings must be worn to enter the building and social distancing will be in effect. Because of the distancing requirement, if you have a favorite story about James and would like to share with the family, a basket will be placed in the foyer at Emerson Chapel.
