James Donald Chambers, 80, of Goobertown, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at the NEA Baptist Medical Center.
Born in Hayti, Missouri, Don lived in Jonesboro for several years before moving to Little Rock. He lived in Mesquite, Texas, from 1981-2003 when he retired and moved to Goobertown. James spent his working career as an automotive technician and was often referred to Mesquite as "Dr. Don ," because of his ability to fix any mechanical problem.
Don attended The Rock of NEA Church and Calvary Pentecostal Church in Jonesboro and enjoyed classic cars. He also enjoyed traveling, camping and being outdoors.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Chambers; parents: Roy and Adeline Tyre Chambers; a sister, Marvalene Hurst; 2 brothers: Doyle Chambers and Orval Chambers; a brother-in-law, Gene Adams; and a son-in-law, Jon Silvey.
Survivors include 1 daughter, Sandra Jaye Silvey of McRae;
2 sons and daughter-in-law: Alton Clay Chambers of Goobertown, and Chris Noell and Kristy Chambers of Cibolo, Texas;
1 brother and spouse, Carl and Terry Chambers of Jonesboro;
2 sisters and spouse: Ruth and Robert Robinson of Goobertown and Marilyn Adams of Bono;
1 brother-in-law and spouse: Leon and Annette Hurst of Jonesboro;
2 sisters-in-law: Maxine Simpson of Nashville, Tennessee, and JoAnn Chambers of Little Rock;
7 grandchildren and spouses: Jennalee and David Gardner, Audrey Chambers, Collin Chambers, Erica and Marc Stark, Dalton Chambers, Connor Chambers and Chase Chambers; and
5 great grandchildren: Jordan Gardner, Daelynn Gardner, Ashya Lyons, Amari Scales and Aleia Scales.
Visitation will be from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. Friday at Emerson Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jesse Gay officiating. Burial will follow in Rutherford Cemetery.
