James Caldwell, 86, of Dixie, passed away Monday, January 11, 2016, at Five Rivers Medical Center in Pocahontas.
Born in the Black Oak community, James grew up in eastern Craighead County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and lived in St. Louis for 34 years where he was a welder for General Motors. James retired in 1991 and returned to Arkansas and lived several years in Bay before moving to the Dixie community. He was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and playing dominoes with his friends.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Caldwell; his parents: Charley and Mary Edna Carlile Caldwell; and a brother, Leroy "Dal" Caldwell.
Survivors include a sister, Phyllis (Dub) Newell of Jonesboro;
2 brothers: Rex Caldwell of Jonesboro and Bobby (Mary) Caldwell of Dixie; and
several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Joel McMasters officiating. Burial will follow in Nettleton Cemetery.
Pallbearers include James D. Garrett, Larry Boling, James Baggett, Jim Whitney and Kyle Cooper.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in Emerson Chapel.
