James Everett Adams, Jr.

James Everett (Eddie) Adams, 76 of Jonesboro departed this life at home on July 30, 2026, after an extended illness. He was born December 6, 1949, to his late parents, Ed and Juanita Adams in Caruthersville, Missouri.

He is survived by his wife Mary of 53 years and two sons, Josh Adams (Elsa) of Los Angeles, California and Jake Adams (Blake) of Memphis, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Valentina Hoffman, Joaquin Adams, and Claire Adams; his sister Delila; brother-in-law, Terry and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jennifer; sister Sharyn; brother-in-law Rex and niece, Tammy. He began his career with Wonder Bread at an early age as his father, a routeman, would take him in his truck using a loaf of bread for a naptime pillow. He drove vacation routes during the summers of his college years. His job as bakery manager took him and his family to Memphis, Tampa, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Tulsa and St. Louis, where he became Vice President of the company. He loved the challenge of improving a bakery as his work ethic was incredible. After his 30-year career with Wonder Bread, he began to work at Memphis Marine with his sister. This job provided temporary and summer jobs for his sons, which encouraged them both to finish college and enter other fields.

Eddie moved with his wife to Jonesboro in 2006 and enjoyed many hours of golf with his beloved golf buddies in Sage Meadows.

He was a member of Cornerstone Methodist Church and participated in the backpack school food program and Fisher Street food summer program.

A memorial service will be planned at Emerson Funeral Home on Saturday, August 8 from 2-4 p.m. A private burial will follow in Caruthersville, Missouri.
