Mrs. Jacqueline “Jackie” Pierce of Jonesboro, was born in rural Jonesboro on May 2, 1922 to Russell and Retha Smith. They moved to Sioux City, Iowa, her father’s home place when she was a little baby. Jacqueline had three brothers, Russell, Robert and Alfred Smith who all preceded her in death. Retha brought her children back to Jonesboro in 1934. Jacqueline became a Christian at Friendly Hope Baptist Church in 1938 and married Earnest Pierce in 1940. They had two children, Frankie Sue who was killed in the tornado at Jonesboro in 1968 and a son, Danny Ray who passed from this life in 2011. Earnest died in 1981.
Jacqueline became a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in 1984. She is survived by her grandson, Kevin, who she and Earnest raised for his father, Ralph Stevens, who also survives her. Kevin and Debra gave his grandmother two great granddaughters and two great great grandchildren. Another grandson, Jason Pierce and his wife Michelle and a granddaughter, Dana Pierce also survives her. Jacqueline is survived by two sisters-in-law, Donna Smith of Mountain Home and Opal Pierce of Jonesboro and many nieces and nephews. Jackie loved her church family and all of her relatives. She looked forward to meeting them in Heaven where she would meet Jesus also.
Funeral services will be 10:00 Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Glen Putnam officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Pierce Cemetery with pallbearers: Joe Pierce, Elmer Metcalf, Jim Smith, Randall Pierce, Jason Pierce, and Kevin Stevens. Visitation will be Wednesday night at Emerson Memorial Chapel from 5-7. .
