Jack Douglas Jackson, 60, of Jonesboro, died Monday at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was born in Little Rock and had lived in Jonesboro for the past 15 years. He grew up in Monticello where he was active in the First United Methodist Church
as a youth. As a retired minister with the United Methodist Church, he served United Methodist churches in Nettleton, Lake City, Lakeview, and many other churches in northeast Arkansas. He received his BSE in Public Administration from the University of Arkansas and his Master of Divinity Degree from Memphis Theological Seminary. Jack was a Vietnam veteran having served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Jack was an avid fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Jack served for the past 10 years on the Board of Directors of the United Methodist
Children's Home and Methodist Family Health. He was the Chairman of the Board's Nominating Committee and served on the Finance Committee and the Audit Committee.
He also served as a member of the Methodist Federation for Social Action. During his college years, Jack was a leader in the Young Democrats of Arkansas. He continued throughout his life to be an active political observer and supporter of the Democratic Party, having served on Dale Bumpers’ staff.
Jack is survived by his wife of 20 years, Donna Jackson, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd J. & Tricia Smith, Jeremy & Kristin Smith, all of Conway; grandchildren, Rylee Smith, Hayley Brianne Smith, Katelyn Rose Smith; and a host of other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Memory & Joann Oates Jackson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Nettleton United Methodist Church with Rev. N. Wayne Clark, Rev. Harmon Whitehurst, and Donnie Burks officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Lloyd J. Smith, Jeremy Smith, Mike Cameron, Alec Farmer, Jim Furr, and Jim Hargis.
Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church.
