View Funeral Webcast June 6, 2023, “D-Day” is a day of remembrance for our country and will now have another meaning for our family, as the day Isaac Byrd Bobby Edward Daugherty of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away at the age of 83. He was born in Blue Diamond, Kentucky on August 9, 1939, the fourth child of nine children born to Edgar and Gertrude Daugherty. His family worked in coal mines and Ike shared the story that the children would race to greet their grandfather when he walked home from the mine because he would save his dessert from his lunch box and give it to whomever greeted him first. This generous spirit and love for his family shone through Ike as well. His father served in the Army for over 20 years and Ike enlisted in the Air Force on June 23, 1958, after graduating from High School in Odenton, Maryland. Ike served his country for 30 years retiring with the highest enlisted ranking, Chief Master Sergeant. The bases he was stationed at included: Lackland AFB in Texas, Keesler AFB in Mississippi, Eglin AFB in Florida, Wheelus AFB in North Africa, Phu Cat in Vietnam, Hickam in Hawaii, Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota, Lindsey AS in Germany, Blytheville AFB in Arkansas, Hickam in Hawaii, and he retired at Fairchild AFB in Washington. In November of 1974, Ike married his loving wife, Reta, and they blended their families together and traveled the world in service to our country. Ike loved his family passionately and his favorite part of traveling was coming home to them. They have been happily married for 49 years. In 1982, Ike committed his life to Christ and faithfully served others his entire life. Ike’s passion for Christ and love for his family was evident to all that knew him as evidenced by this entry in his journal…”Please excuse me while I lift my heart to God in prayer. It’s heart warming to pray to our God in Heaven. I have so much to be thankful for. My life living in Christ is unmatchable, it can’t be better than living for our Savior. The goodness of serving Him and others is soul refreshing.” Ike is survived by his wife, Reta Freeman Daugherty of Jonesboro, Arkansas; daughter, Sherry Hester and husband Jeff Hester of Memphis, Tennessee; daughter, Kelley Oppenheim and husband Kenny of Cooper City, Florida; daughter, Laura Diamond and husband Kevin Diamond of Bono, Arkansas; daughter, Pam Popejoy of Memphis, Tennessee; and son, Shawn Casey and wife Adelle Casey of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Alex Long, Casey Oppenheim, Emily Diamond, Rachel Casey, Ashley Diamond, and Jaxson Casey; one great grandchild; sister, Barbara Peterson and husband Donald Peterson of West Virginia; brother, Fred Daugherty of Maryland; sister, Reva Norwig of Maryland, sister Lois Boles of Maryland, sister Billie Joe Bonolis of Pennsylvania; and a host of other loving family members and friends. Ike was preceded in death by his brothers Jim Daugherty, Donald Daugherty and Kenny Daugherty; and his parents.
