Iris Meeks Silvey, 92, of Jonesboro, died Friday, December 30, 2011 at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born in Swartz, Louisiana to Charlie L. & Ruth Burford Meeks. She had lived in Jonesboro for 20 years, moving here from Benton. She was a graduate of Eudora High School and retired after 30 years of service as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician at the State Hospital and at George W. Jackson in Jonesboro. She enjoyed watching television and sports and was a member of the Razorback Club for several years. She also enjoyed listening to the Gaithers, fishing, camping, and reading. She was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church in Benton.
She is survived by her children, Vernon Silvey of Greers Ferry, Helen (Jim) Mashburn of Jonesboro; brother, Hope (Vernie) Meeks, Hodge, Louisiana; sisters, Willie Mae (Richard) Reitzell, Monroe, Louisiana, Christine Pitre, Kenner, Louisiana; grandchildren, Dell Silvey, Mark Silvey, Robert (Jan) Mashburn, Rick (Aria) Mashburn, Carole (Daniel) Johnson, Lara (Brad) Dickson; 8 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and a special friend, Mary Katherine Tolbert.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Odell Silvey, 1 infant son; sisters, Lucille Smith, Mildred Smith; brothers, Carlie Meeks, Robert E. Meeks, John D. Meeks, Durwood Meeks, and Orville Meeks.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Little Rock with Rev. Bob Stuckey officiating. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.
