Inez Salmons

November 28, 1935 — December 6, 2021

Inez Griffin Salmons, 86, of Jonesboro, died Monday, December 6th, at Liberty Park Senior Living in Jonesboro.  She was born November 28th, 1935 to Donald and Wilma Falls Griffin, although she celebrated her birthday on November 27th.

A native and life-long resident of Jonesboro, Inez was a 1953 graduate of Valley View High School and was Salutatorian of her class.  She played high school basketball for the Blazers, and was remembered as an excellent free throw shooter.  She was a homemaker and worked as a secretary at General Electric before having children.

Inez was a member of Christian Valley Christian Church where she taught Sunday school, children’s church, worked in Vacation Bible School, and was a member of the church choir and Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was also a member of the Valley View Extension Homemaker’s Club.

Even though we live in an age where nearly everything is done electronically, Inez would have no part of it. She loved to send handwritten cards to close friends and relatives, and never failed to remember birthdays.  She would also send notes of encouragement and sympathy to those that needed a kind word or to let them know she was thinking of them.  Everyone in her extended family lovingly joked that if no one else remembered their birthday, they could always count on getting a card in the mail from “Nez”.

Inez loved to travel, but her favorite place to go was Hardy, Arkansas.  She loved sitting outside on the deck of her cabin that overlooked the South Fork of Spring River.  She always said that’s where she would go to have her soul restored.

In addition to her parents, Inez was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, J.D. “Stormy” Salmons; two brothers, Charles Griffin and Don Griffin; one sister, Jane Turney; brother-in-law, Melvin Hall; sister-in-law, Jean Griffin; and son-in-law, Greg Moody.

Survivors include son, Stan Salmons of Williford; daughter, Sherry Salmons Moody of Jonesboro; two sisters, Anita (Doyle) Yarbrough, of Jonesboro and Ollie Ann Hall, of Jonesboro; brother-in-law, Joe Turney (Susie) of Jonesboro; and sister-in-law, Mollie Griffin of Beebe.  Inez is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved as well.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 9th, at 10:00 a.m. at McDaniel Cemetery in Jonesboro, with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.  Brother Mitch Ford will officiate.  There will be no visitation.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the Christian Valley Christian Church Building Fund, 2016 Valley View Drive, Jonesboro, AR  72404 or the McDaniel Cemetery Association, in care of Larry Ransone, 230 CR 415, Jonesboro, AR 72404.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Nathan Turney, her nephew and physician, for his excellent care over the years, and to Stacy and Camille from Dierksen’s Hospice, the Visiting Angels, and the nurses and staff at Liberty Park Senior Living for the excellent care they provided Inez the past few months.
