Ida Wimpy

May 28, 1942 — July 20, 2015

On July 20th, 2015 a bright light left this world with the passing of Ida G. (Jones) (Owens) Wimpy, 73 at St Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, AR. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on May 28th, 1942 to Malcom and Eleanor M. Jones, and was later adopted by her step-father Master Sergeant Harold Owens (Retired) after her mother’s remarriage. She grew up and attended school in Alaska and Aberdeen, MD where she met the love of her life, David. After a brief courtship they married and spent the next twenty three years traveling the world and sharing numerous adventures while he served in the Army. During this time she lived in places as exotic as Albuquerque, New Mexico and as far away as Italy and Germany. Along the way she also bore three lovable children who caused her great stress and worry, but also brought unending joy and happiness.

In 1983, after sending her children out into the world, her time as an Army wife ended and she settled, with her great love, in Jonesboro. Here she became the matriarch of a growing family and never failed to bring happiness to everyone around her. She worked as a Customer Service Representative at City Water and Light until her retirement in 2007.

She then spent the remainder of her time enjoying her family and indulging her grand and great-grand children of whom she was immensely proud.
She was a member of First Christian Church (DOC) and served several terms as a deaconess.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her half-sister Reverend Miriam (Owens) Eaton of Boonville, MO. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, David N. Wimpy, her two daughters, Eleanor M. Meyer and Lori A. (John) Williams of Jonesboro, and her son G. Norman Wimpy (Eva) of Hohenfels, Germany; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 23, 2015 from 5:00-7:00PM at Emerson Memorial Chapel. Services will be Friday, July 24, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jerry Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
