Hubert A. Brodell

Hubert Austin Brodell, Sr., 88, of Jonesboro, passed away Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

Born in the Randolph County community of Engleberg, Hubert moved to Jonesboro in 1952 and lived most of his life here. He spent 35 years in the life insurance profession, serving as the Regional Manager for American General Insurance Company and later forming the Brodell-Bailey and Associates Insurance Agency. Hubert was elected Mayor of Jonesboro in 1986 and served 18 years, retiring December 31, 2004.

Hubert was a long-time member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where he was Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. Through the years, Hubert was a member of or active in Jonesboro Exchange, Elks Lodge, Catfish Club, Boy Scouts, Kiwanis, Lions, Jonesboro Literacy League, United Cerebral Palsy, Salvation Army, The United Way, Greater Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce, March of Dimes, and the Southwest Drive McDonalds Morning Coffee Group.

Hubert was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Brodell, granddaughter Valerie Cornwell and his 2 brothers: Charles Brodell and Eugene Brodell.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law: Julia and Carl Johnson of Jonesboro;
5 sons and daughters-in-law: Hubie and Deena Brodell, Tony and Caroline Brodell, Andy and Kim Brodell, and Hugh Alan and Erika Brodell, all of Jonesboro, and Aaron and Mandy Brodell of rural Paragould;
16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

A rosary service will be at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday in Emerson Chapel. Visitation will follow the rosary until 7:00 p.m.

A funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Active pallbearers include Carl Johnson, Hubie Brodell, Tony Brodell, Andy Brodell, Hugh Alan Brodell, Aaron Brodell, Jeremy Brodell and Anthony Brodell.

Honorary pallbearers include: Larry Johnson, Wallace and Jama Fowler, Herb Scarr, Ralph and Dorothy Gossett, Gene Barnett, David and Cindy Eagle, Steve Greenwood, Sanitation Department Retirees, Dick and Peggy Darouse, Wayne Masterson, Harry Hardwick, Harold Perrin, L.M. Duncan, Don Bridger, Jack McCann, Bubba and Ruth Barnett, Becky Bailey, Guy Riga, Tom and Gwen Gschwend, Bill Gott and Pete Yarbrough.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to Blessed Sacrament Church Building Fund, Boy Scout Troop 4, Jonesboro Literacy League or United Cerebral Palsy.
