Howard “Papaw” Covington, 88, of Lepanto, Arkansas, died June 8th, 2018, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born September 27, 1929, in New Albany, Mississippi, to Clint and Annie Covington. He grew up to be a cowboy, a horse trader and the greatest family man this world has ever known. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, the best grandfather and great-grandfather ever and a friend to countless people.
Papaw was preceded in death by his first granddaughter, Carla Anne Tyler; his favorite niece, Sue Marter; and his best friend, Pete Marter. Survivors include his wife of 69 years and 351 days, Vera Covington; his daughters, JoAnne Gamble (David) and Billye White (David); his grandchildren, Wendey Emison (Todd), Miki Womack (Jeff), and Rick White; and his great-grandchildren, Cooper Liles, TJ Emison.,Carly Jo Womack, Vada Mae Womack, and Kirby Womack.
Visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Emerson Funeral Home chapel. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m., with Jake Gilley officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will be private.
