Howard Cook Jr.

Howard Cook Jr., 80, of Jonesboro passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014 at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Howard was born on July 11, 1933 in Paragould to the late Daniel Howard and Ola Mae Pressley Cook. A Korean War veteran, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1950 before graduating high school. He received his GED degree after his service in the Navy. He also attended Arkansas State University. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 26 years, retiring in 1985 as Director of Mail Processing at the Jonesboro Post Office.

He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arkansas Razorbacks, and he was a member of the Southwest Church of Christ. He was an outdoorsman that loved to be with his family, and his fun loving personality will be missed but never forgotten.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson, Timothy Cook Jr., three brothers, Jerry Douglas, Paul Ray, and Russell Thomas Cook.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ella Cook of the home; one son, Tim Cook of Jonesboro; two daughters, Margaret Cook of Virginia Beach, VA, and Deborah Lane of Fayetteville; two brothers, David Cook of Jonesboro and Bob Cook of Oakland, CA; one sister Kay Gibson of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Bridgett Brewer, Brandon Lane, Ashlyn Blair Cook, Nikolas and Romani Cook; two great grandchildren, Haley and Tiffany Brewer; and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Richard Akins officiating. Burial will follow at Caldwell Chapel Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Drew Canamore, Brandon Lane, Ernie Smith, Tim Culbreath, Phillip Brewer, Eric Turman, and honorary pallbearers are David Cook and Bob Cook.
