Honorable Howard Templeton, 69, of Jonesboro died Monday, September 03, 2007. Judge Templeton received his BS degree from Arkansas State University in 1963 and earned his JD from the University of Arkansas School of Law. Judge Templeton was in the private practice of law from 1966 until his election as a Chancellor and Probate Judge in 1976. He is a past-president of the Arkansas Judicial Council, an Association of all the Arkansas Trial and Appellate Judges and a past member of its Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Arkansas Bar Association, served in the U. S. Army Security Agency for three years, St. Timothy’s Anglican Church and a member of the Catfish Club.
Howard was an avid outdoorsman and an accomplished hunter and fisherman. He was also a skilled woodcarver creating outstanding objects such as a cigar store Indian and many other noted pieces.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, J. C. Jenkins and Freddy Templeton; sisters, Lucille Swick and Virginia Jankowski. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Carol Templeton; daughters, Karen Butler and husband John; Sharon McDaniel and husband Ron; Elizabeth Vonette Templeton. Also surviving are brothers, Bill Templeton and wife Vonette of Jonesboro; James Templeton and wife Pat of Festus Missouri; sisters Margaret Ivy and Ruth DeJournette, both of Pocahontas, Arkansas. Grandchildren are Adam Charles Butler, Anna Carol Butler, Lindsey Butler, Maggie Butler, Marshall Kirkpatrick McDaniel and Weston Howard McDaniel and numerous nieces and nephews.
A communion service will be held 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church with Father Brad Cunningham and Father Limuel Parks officiating with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 Wednesday prior to the service. Burial will be private. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Shanlever, Kenny Oliver, Mickey Murfee, Joe T. Wilson, Ouida Hardin, Jim Snodgrass, Wayne Arnold, Jim Holland, John Puckett, Jim Clouse, Alan Stolt, the Craighead County Bar Association and the Circuit Judges of the 2nd Judicial District.
