Homer S. Smith, Jr., 79, of Jonesboro, died Monday, December 31, 2012, at St. Bernards Medical Center.
Homer was born in Jonesboro and following graduation from Jonesboro High School, moved to New York City where he furthered his education. While living in New York, Homer completed the Joseph Bulova School of watch making and watch repair. He returned to Jonesboro and began a long career as a sales associate with Elder and Stevens in Jonesboro.
Homer was a long-time member of Walnut Street Baptist Church and enjoyed dancing with the Camper Dancers Square Dance Club, the Pistols and Petticoats and the Senior Citizens Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer, Sr. and Winnie Smith, and by his wife, Jo Ann Smith.
Survivors include 3 sons: Scott York of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Paul York of Springfield, Missouri and Alan Wayne Willis of Memphis;
1 daughter, Sharma Sue Edwards of Memphis,
1 brother, Joey Smith of Jonesboro;
A devoted friend, Vivian Blalock of Jonesboro;
5 cousins, numerous grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Glen Putman officiating. Burial will be private.
Honorary pallbearers include Bob Grisham, Dean Timmons and members of the Murl Smith Sunday School Class at Walnut Street Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held Friday from 1:00 until service time in Emerson Chapel.
