Homer Hart

Homer Milton “Peck” Hart, 90, of Jonesboro died peacefully in his sleep March 22, 2013 at the Phil and Flo Jones Hospice House. From birth to death he remained a person with a sweet countenance who was liked by everyone he met.

He was born February 9, 1923 in Mexia, Texas during the only blizzard to have ever occurred in the area and died during one of the latest snowfalls of record in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jacob Cleveland and Eudora Massey Hart and his wife of 58 years Doris Maddox Hart. He is also preceded in death by his sister Helen Hart, brothers Elvin Hart and wife Lillian, Jack Hart and wife Elise, Duane Hart who is survived by wife Bettye and preceded in death by his granddaughter Courtney Elizabeth Hart Guinn; and sister-in-law, Barbara Hart.

He is survived by his brother Don Hart of Salinas, California and sister Chris Hart Wall(George) of Rockdale, Texas,daughter Sheila Hart Guinn (Rusty) of Jonesboro, Arkansas and son Milton Hart of Tallahassee, Florida, his grandson Spencer Hart Guinn(Maggie)and his granddaughter Lida E Guinn all of Jonesboro. He also is survived by three great granddaughters Amelia Guinn, Georgia Guinn and Cate Guinn all of Jonesboro.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a medical corpsman on the USS Jackson in the south Pacific theater. After a medical discharge, he attended Baylor University graduating with a BA in Accounting.

He worked for the Chilton Credit Reporting Company from graduation until 1968 when he purchased several independent credit reporting agencies including the Credit Bureau of Jonesboro which he sold in 1992 to Rusty and Sheila Guinn.

A military graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Nesbitt Cemetery in Calvert, Texas under the direction of Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home, Hearne, Texas where he will be buried beside his wife Doris.

Honorary pallbearers will be his 35 beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that lasting memorials be made to Salvation Army, 800 Cate Street, Jonesboro, Arkansas, 72401.
