Homer Eugene Hallett

February 11, 1940 — September 19, 2020

Homer Eugene Hallett, 80 of Jonesboro, died Saturday, September 19, 2020.  He had lived in Jonesboro since 1962 and was a member of Central Baptist Church.  He was a renown softball umpire for 39 years. He retired from Arkansas State University, having worked at the university for 38 years.  Other jobs in the printing field he had were at Roberson Printers and the Jonesboro Sun. Eugene served his country state-side during the Vietnam War.  Among his many hobbies, he enjoyed gardening, watching Cardinal baseball, woodworking, and fish fries and breakfasts with his Sunday School Class.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Trixie and Cecil Hallett, and one sister, Lorene Joslin.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Hallett, of the home; son, Shea Hallett; daughter, Dominique Hallett, both of Jonesboro; sisters, Louise Short and Bonnie Hallett both of Springfield, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of beloved friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 Friday, September 25, 2020, at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Don Blackmore and Gene McMorries officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Logan Hall, Timothy Williams, Johnny Coleman, David Hopkins, Ryan Mansfield, Dusty Rhodes serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers are Sam, Kaiea, Clarence “Scoot” Dent, employees at ASU Print Shop, past and present; and the members of Central Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class.  Visitation will be from 12:30 until service time, Friday, at Emerson. Arkansas State University will honor the memory of Homer by lighting the Bell Tower in Red on Friday.
