H.L. Parks

H.L. Parks III, 85, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at NEA Baptist Hospital. He was born to H.L. Parks Jr. and Elma Colvin Parks on September 16, 1936 in Little Rock. The family moved to Jonesboro in 1946 and H.L. graduated from Jonesboro High in 1954 where he was active in athletics and in the band as a percussionist. Upon graduation he attended the University of Oklahoma on a Naval scholarship. While at O.U. he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.  H.L. served twelve years in the Marine Corp., participating in competitive rifle and pistol shooting. He served two tours in Viet Nam and achieved the rank of Captain. After leaving the Marines he resided in San Diego for many years working as a financial planner for Bank of America. He maintained the family home after his parents’ death living seasonally between San Diego and Jonesboro. H.L. enjoyed participating in hunting, fishing, and golf; he was an avid spectator of all sporting events.

H.L. loved all genres of music and was especially fond of bluegrass. He was a member of First Baptist Church and sang in the choir when in Jonesboro and likewise in the choir in the San Diego church he attended.

H.L. is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his cousin Fred B. Parks (Alison) of Columbia, Missouri, his favorite aunt Tilden Parks of Dallas, Texas, as well as his 13-year-old Boykin Spaniel “Jake”. He also leaves behind a host of friends to mourn his loss.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church, Jonesboro, Thursday, March 3, 10:00 a.m. No Visitation. Dr. Rodney Reeves will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Barnett, Gaylon Rogers, John Huff, Charles Carter Dryer, and Mason Bennett. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Richard Lusby Sunday School Class. Following the service interment will be at the Jonesboro Memorial Park.
