Hershel Truman Henderson, 89 of Jonesboro, died Wednesday at NEA Baptist Hospital. He was born November 12, 1922, in Mountain View, AR., to Earl and Susan Wade Henderson. Hershel was a Baptist and was a member of North Main Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Hershel was a family man, loved deer hunting and camping; had his pilot’s license and enjoyed traveling. He loved his little companion, Snowball, the Lhasa Apso. Hershel was fire chief at the Keiser fire department and had served on the department for 22 years. For 8 years Hershel was a deputy sheriff for Mississippi county.
Hershel is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Juanita of 59 years; 5 brothers, 1 sister, 2 daughters, Barbara Tatum and Jeanette Henderson; and son-in-law, Harvey Darby.
Survivors include sons Truman (Jan) Henderson of Bono, Murry (Edith) of Keiser, and Glenn Henderson of Texas; Daughters Eva Henderson and Connie (Rick) Buford of Jonesboro, Shirley Darby of Bono, Donna Henderson of Jonesboro; and Rebecca (Kevin) Happy of Waxahachie, Texas; 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Todd Vinson officiating. Burial will follow at Herman Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Steve, Michael, Don, Murry Jr., Mark Henderson and Jeff Kohler. Honorary pallbearers include the staff and employees of NEA Baptist Hospital.
Visitation will be Saturday from 12 – 2 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel.
