Hermon B. Phillips

December 25, 1924 — December 9, 2009

Hermon B. Phillips, 84, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at his home. He was born in Osceola, Arkansas and lived there until 1985, when he moved to Jonesboro. He was a member of the Nettleton Church of Christ and served in the US Air Force as a Second Lieutenant Navigator Bombardier. He graduated in 1950 and played football at Ole Miss as a tight end. Hermon was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Arvie Phillips; two sisters, Opal Hovis and Martha Shaw.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Virginia Phillips, of the home; Barry Phillips and wife Brenda, Jonesboro; Steve Phillips and wife Carla, Brookland, Arkansas; Dan Phillips and wife Sharon, Jonesboro; three grandchildren, Alicia Phillips Hadley, Barry Brent Phillips and Hunter Ross Phillips; and three great grandchildren, Emma, Clark and Sophie.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the Nettleton Church of Christ with Brother Jimmy Young and Brother Jimmy Ferguson officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Rick Tubbs, Harold Perrin, Junior McDaniel, John House, Dicky Kennemore, Brent Phillips, Hunter Phillips and Lanny Bell serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from noon until service time at the Nettleton Church of Christ Church.
