Herberta Lynne Hartness, 78, of Jonesboro, formerly of Wynne, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 6, 1947, in East St. Louis, Illinois, to the late Herbert and Thelma Waddell.
Herberta was a devoted member of Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Jonesboro. She was active in several community groups, including the Library Knitting Group, the Fiber Friends Knitting Group, the Novel Lovers Book Club at the library, and the Woman’s Missionary Auxiliary.
A woman of many talents and hobbies, Herberta enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cake decorating, ceramics, macramé, and cross-stitching. She also loved watching murder mysteries, Hallmark movies, and her favorite YouTube channel, The Crazy Sock Lady.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Donna Buchanan, Judy Warnick, and Peggy Waddell.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 and a half years, Richard Hartness Sr. of the home; one son, Richard Hartness Jr. (Brooksie) of Paragould; two daughters, Jennifer Hartness McGee and Melinda Hartness, both of Wynne; one sister, Pam Fletcher (Micheal) of Jonesboro; eleven grandchildren, Jordyn Smith, Aaron Winford, Coy Davenport, Noah Winford, Adam Hartness, Ryan Hartness, Nathan Hartness, Whitney Dwyer, Ross Felty, Layne McGee, and Maggie Williams; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of cherished friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Prospect Missionary Baptist Church beginning at 9:00 a.m., with a celebration of life service at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at Birdeye (Hwy 163 South). Bro. Mike Book will officiate the services.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Aaron Winford, Coy Davenport, Noah Winford, Adam Hartness, Ryan Hartness, Nathan Hartness, Layne McGee, and Ross Felty.
