Herbert Clyde Davis

September 13, 1935 — March 18, 2022

Herbert Clyde Davis, 86, of Jonesboro, died Friday, March 18. 2022, at his home. He was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to John Leo Davis and Laura Belle Hicks Davis.  He retired from the US Navy, as a Sr. Chief Commissary Specialist, having served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War.  He served as a band director while serving his country. He was a proud member of the “Bearss Club” having served on the USS Bearss. After leaving the Navy, he enrolled in college and got his masters degree.  He was the City of Jonesboro’s first Financial Director.  He was awarded the Key to the City of Pompano Beach, Florida. It was presented to him, by his mother, the Mayor of Pompano Beach.  He enjoyed the stock market, and photography. He was the first director for the Forum in Jonesboro.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Rae and one brother.

Survivors include his sons, Charlie Davis and wife, Linda of Walnut Ridge; John Davis and his wife Sherry of Jonesboro; brother, Skeeter Davis of Virginia; sister Gracie Eris of Florida; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
