Henry H. Vanderbilt

Henry H. Vanderbilt, 95, of Jonesboro, died Thursday, September 1, 2011, at Craighead County Nursing Center.

Born September 24, 1915, in Marmaduke, Henry moved to Weiner in 1957 and then to Jonesboro in 1958. He was a retired track inspector for Cotton Belt Railroad where he worked over thirty years. Henry was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of W.W. II.

Henry enjoyed gardening and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ima Vanderbilt, 2 sisters, Dorothy Harris and Glendaline Vanderbilt, and by 5 brothers, Bill, Al, Robert, Herman and Glen Edward Vanderbilt.

Survivors include one son and his wife, Gary and Pat Vanderbilt of Jonesboro;

3 sisters and brother-in-law: Clara and Harry Holt of Pensacola, Florida, Nola Jordan of Gas City, Indiana, and Shirley Gunterman of St. Louis;

2 grandchildren, Amy and husband Stuart Simpson, and Steven Vanderbilt, all of Jonesboro; and 6 great grandchildren: Lynlie, Luke and Logan Simpson, and David, Gregory and Abigail Vanderbilt; and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services and visitation will be private with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.
