Henry Louis Breeding

Henry Louis Breeding of Lake City, died January 14, 2013, at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro after a long illness. He was born on November 19, 1933, in rural Monroe County, Arkansas, the second child of Henry Franklin Breeding and Virgie Myrtle (Norton) Breeding. He was an Eagle Scout and served in the United States Marine Corps and the Arkansas National Guard. He earned a BSE and MSE from Arkansas State University. He spent his career in education, serving as both a teacher and a principal. He taught in Surridge in Randolph County; in Keyes, Crow’s Landing and Newman, California; in Jonesboro, and finally in Lake City and Caraway in Craighead County. He was of the Baptist faith and served as a Sunday School teacher. He was a life-long fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the University of Arkansas Razorbacks and the athletic programs at ASU; he served as a Sun Belt Conference track and field official at many ASU track meets. He showed his support for his local high school athletic programs in many ways including coaching basketball, officiating basketball and baseball, and announcing for the football team. During his lifetime his hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping and tending bees. While living in California, he was a member of the Lions Club and worked as a reserve police officer. He was preceded in death by his parents, several uncles and aunts and two nephews.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Vera Sawyers Breeding of the home, a son, Bruce (Esther) Breeding of Lexington, Kentucky, and a daughter, Laura Lizanne (Billy) Cook of Black Oak, Arkansas. He was a loving grandfather to Nathan Cook, John Cook, and Strohmann Breeding. He is also survived by his siblings, Charles (Lou) Breeding, Barbara Brossett, Joel (Virginia) Breeding, Jim (Anita) Breeding, and Merle (Jean) Breeding.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Services will be private.

Memorials are requested to the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society or the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.
