Hank served as a sergeant in the Army and transferred over to Air Force where he served another 20years. In 1967 and 1968, he served in the Vietnam war, distinguishing himself by meritorious service as the Driving Force of a two-ton heavy equipment operating team. During the Tet offensive, Sergeant Boone willingly and knowingly faced hostile fire twice daily for a period of two weeks on the dangerous and sometimes booby-trapped route 1 Highway. Hank loved being with his family, being outdoors, wood-working, and watching British television shows. He loved to cook and was known for his meatloaf and pineapple upside-down cake with extra cherries.
