Helen Sullinger

July 31, 1918 — April 3, 2010

Helen Sullinger, 91, of Jonesboro, died Saturday at Craighead Nursing Center. Born in Ravenden Springs to William & Myrtle Beck Jenkins, she had lived in Jonesboro since 1975. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. Her passion was children. She raised her own children, the neighbors’ children, and the children at church. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and worked in the child care program at Central until age 85. She was a patient and loving woman and has touched the lives of many families.

She is survived by her children, Ralph (Estelle) Sullinger, Morganton, NC, Stan (Kima) Sullinger, The Woodlands, TX, Eula Schell and Emma Sullinger, both of Jonesboro; a sister, Leota Proudlock, Garden City MI; grandchildren, Connie (Jim) Thuston, Alan (Sarah) Schell, Melanie (Jerry) Stone, Teresa Sullinger, Stuart (Paula) Sullinger, Adam (Donna) Sullinger, Leeann (Andrew) McDonald, John Sullinger; and great grandchildren, Eric (Tess) Thuston, Jacob Sullinger, Cody Veteto, Sean Thuston, Bethany Sullinger, Kady Veteto, Grace Sullinger, and Emma Claire Sullinger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arvil Sullinger; brothers, Homer, Bill, Aaron, and Wilson Jenkins; sisters, Canzada Taylor, Josephine Butts, and Vera Hurt.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Mike Martin and Stan Sullinger officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sullinger’s grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
