Helen Phillips Doty

Helen Phillips Doty departed this life on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro after a lengthy illness. She was born July 18, 1927, near Weiner, Arkansas. She lived most of her life in Walnut Ridge, moving to Jonesboro in 1998.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Paul H. Doty, Sr., of the home, a daughter Susan Dudley of Jonesboro, and a son Paul Doty, Jr. (Jane) of Walnut Ridge. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Emily (Heath) Richey and J. Paul Doty of Walnut Ridge, Sara (Will) Campbell and Claire (Robert) Matthews of Nashville, Tennessee, and five great grandchildren.

Helen was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Bertha Phillips, by two brothers, Carl Phillips and Jesse Phillips.

Helen was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro, having previously been a member of First United Methodist Church of Walnut Ridge for nearly fifty years, where she taught children, served on the Administrative Board, various committees and was an active member of United Methodist Women.

Funeral service will be held at Emerson’s Funeral Home in Jonesboro on Friday, April 22, 2011, at 2:00 with Revs. John Miles and Patty Soward officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Private entombment will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
