Helen Marie Brunson Laws, 85, of Jonesboro, passed away peacefully at her home on January 17, 2026. Born in Mountain Home on March 2, 1940, to the late Joe and Noma Brunson, Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Laws, and her brother, Roy Brunson.

Helen was born in Mountain Home and raised on her family farm, tending their chickens. From an early age, she lived a simple life. When she wasn’t helping her family, she was always reading. Helen took pride in her education and earned her teaching degree after attending college in Conway. After her college success, she moved to the Forrest City area to begin her teaching career. Shortly after starting her teaching assignment, Helen met the love of her life, Frank Laws. They married quickly on July 2, 1963, and welcomed two children in the years that followed. Helen taught younger children during their early education and preferred it that way. According to her, the younger children were easier to teach before they became too sassy. In 2002, Helen retired from her position and moved with her husband to Jonesboro. In her retirement, Helen stayed busy with crafts like needlepoint and growing her African Violets. She was also very active in her church community at Calvary Baptist Church. Most importantly, Helen loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her son, Marlon Laws (Leslye), of Forrest City; daughter, LaNan Brown (James), of Jonesboro; sister-in-law, Linda Laws Powell, of Millington, TN; and grandchildren, Eryn Lewis (Chris), of Russellville, and Caine Laws, of Forrest City.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on January 21, 2026, at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be private.

Honorary Pallbearers include James Brown, Caine Laws, and Chris Lewis.
