Helen Shockley Bradley

Helen Shockley Bradley, 94, of Jonesboro, died Friday, December 30, 2011 at her residence. Helen was born in Fordyce, Arkansas on March 31, 1917 to G. W. and Emma Shockley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Bradley, her parents, and four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by two daughters: Barbara (Edgar) Currier of Memphis, Tennessee and Glo McAlister of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Kelly (Aaron) Spiegel of Indianapolis, Indiana; Craig D. McAlister of Jonesboro; Allison (Tyler) Burchyett of Hernando, Mississippi; Brad de la Rua and Lauri Smith of Memphis; She is also survived by seven great grandchildren: Hannah, Eli, and Gabe Spiegel, Barrett and Baylee Burchyett, Hunter and Spencer Smith. Helen is survived by two sisters: Martha Morgan of Fordyce, Jeanette Huneycutt of Yantis, Texas. Helen graduated from Central High School in Little Rock. While working in Little Rock she met and was married to Douglas Bradley, deceased, a well-known Jonesboro Attorney. The family moved back to Jonesboro in 1946, after Mr. Bradley returned home from the Philippines at the end of WWII.

For many years, Helen was very active working with the Girl Scouts. She served as P.T.A. president and other volunteer jobs such as Band Boosters, while her girls were in school. She has been a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church since 1948, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, in Vacation Bible School, and as a participant on several Mission Trips, as well as other jobs. She studied art at ASU and was very active in her Home Demonstration Club. She was known for her creative and artistic abilities.

Helen and Doug were very active in the Good Sam’s Club of N.E. Arkansas (RV camping). She was a member of the Praise Sunday School Class.

Funeral services celebrating Helen’s life will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 2, 2012 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Glenn Putman, officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Craig McAlister, Brad de la Rua, Spencer Smith, Hunter Smith, Edgar Currier, Tyler Burchyett serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Mr. and Mrs. Alton Holmes, Dr. and Mrs. Bob McGough, Curley Smith, Hazel Stone, and the members of the Praise Sunday School Class. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time.
