H.C. Todd

December 2, 1928 — January 7, 2020

H.C. Todd, age 91, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed from this life on January 7, 2020.

H.C. was born to parents Clyde and Daisy Todd on December 2, 1928 in Swifton, Arkansas. Upon graduation from Walnut Ridge High School, he headed to California for adventure and employment, making his escape from the hot cotton fields of Northeast, AR.

After returning to Arkansas, H.C. married the love of his life, Jane Caroline Rogers and settled in Alicia for many years, where he served as both councilman and mayor, before moving to Jonesboro. H.C. and Jane celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary before Jane passed away in 2015.

H.C. worked many years at Victor Metal Manufacturing before he became a State of Arkansas Driver Control Officer and later Craighead County Chief Deputy Sheriff, a career from which he eventually retired to spend more time with Jane and pursue his woodworking hobby. He also served as a member and chairman of the Jonesboro Civil Service Commission.

H.C., who was known for his sense of humor and bantering, was also recognized for his generosity, fierce loyalty to friends and family, and taking care of everyone who stepped in his path.

To anyone who ever asked, H.C. would always proclaim without hesitation that his proudest achievement was his family, which includes son Danny Todd and wife Jana of Henderson, daughter Lana Shewmaker of Hot Springs and daughter Linda Cook and husband Jim of Tiptonville, TN, as well as four surviving grandchildren, seven surviving great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

H.C. was predeceased by his parents, his wife, a daughter Patricia Jane, grandson Kevin Cook and great-grandson Lucas Todd, daughter-in-law
Ginny Todd, son-in-law John Shewmaker, and siblings Dean Todd and Edith Marie (Sug) Childress.

A Celebration of HC's life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, at Emerson Memorial Chapel. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow in Strangers Home Cemetery at Alicia.
