Our beloved Nana, Hazel Faye Warren Williams of Jonesboro, departed from this earthly realm on January 12, 2022, after a long and colorful 85 years of life. Hazel was born on July 16, 1936 to William Vernon Warren and Beatrice Gertrude Warren outside of Tchula, Mississippi. Hazel was preceded in death by her brother Hermon “Buddy” Warren; sister Katie “Tutta” Curtis; her three children Judy Diane Burford, Teresa Chatham Evans, and Tommy Dale Chatham; as well as her husband Allen Roy Williams. Hazel is survived by her brother Bill Warren and partner Linda of Mississippi; her grandchildren: Jacob Lee Evans and partner Katalyna of Florida, Alexander Evans and partner Keisha of Maine, and Liv Faught and partner Dylan Faught of Arkansas; and her great-grandchildren Cameron and Makiian Evans, and Grayson Alexander Faught.
Nana talked fondly of her early life in the country, and how working the yard with her father inspired her love of nature. She graduated from Tchula High School in 1955. She married Charles Darrold Chatham in 1956 and together had her three beloved children. In 1980, Nana married Allen Roy “Papa” Williams Sr. Nana and Papa moved to Jonesboro in 1996, and Teresa’s family followed soon after. Nana proudly worked at JC Penny’s for decades, spending her free time sewing, tending her beautiful flower gardens, watching birds, and chasing her grandchildren around her yard (and later great-grandchildren, as tends to happen). She had a soft spot for the neighborhood stray cats, and made sure that no animal went hungry.
While we are sad for Nana to go, she lived a full life and is no doubt overjoyed to be reunited with her family in Heaven. To honor her memory, please consider donating to Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, who lovingly and gracefully cared for Nana in her final days, or to the NEA Humane Society, as Nana would want to continue to help to care for the animals of Jonesboro.
Friends may visit the family starting at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Emerson Funeral Home till 1:30 p.m. Graveside services will follow the visitation starting at 2:00 p.m. at McDaniel Cemetery in Jonesboro.
