Harry Mitchell Mackey

September 2, 1919 — March 26, 2017

Harry Mitchell Mackey, 97, passed away March 26, 2017 at his home. Born September 2, 1919 to the late Ogle and Lottie Mackey. He lived in Bono until 1955, then moved to Jonesboro. Harry retired from General Electric in 1982 and began gardening and cutting wood off his “farm”. He was a kind, generous and simple man who always had a smile and sense of humor. He was a faithful member of Highland Drive Baptist Church where he served as an usher.

Harry is survived by his children and their families: daughter Deloris (Larry) Tolbert of Jonesboro, granddaughter Traci (Mark) Perrin, great grandchildren, Chase, Bailey and Taylor of Oneonta, New York; daughter Beverly (Lynn) Erwin of Jonesboro, grandson, Eric (Destiny) Erwin, great granddaughters, Brianna and Brittany of all of Nolensville, Tennessee, grandson Brandon (Lindsay) Erwin great grandchildren, Micah, Kimber, Laykin and Rylan of Jonesboro. Son, Mitchell W. Mackey, grandson Mitchell W. Mackey Jr., great grandson, Justin Mackey and his children all of Jonesboro, Bruce Mackey of Jonesboro. Son, Donnie Mackey Pfeifer of Bono, granddaughter, Heather of Boulder, Co. Donnie was adopted by Lucile and the late Carl “Gene” Pfeifer after the death of Harry’s first wife, Helen, during childbirth. Harry is also survived by his sister Deanie Diglia of Paragould.

Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Malana, sisters Pansy Coleman and Katherine Tisdale, brothers, Elvis and Jimmy Mackey. Special thanks to caregivers, Maxine Mitchell, Dorothy Mengers, Helen Parks, Ruth Ann Adams and Carol and Joe Buck.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday March 28, 2017 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Johnny Hutchison officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday March 28, in Emerson Memorial Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Larry Tolbert, Lynn Erwin, Eric Erwin, Brandon Erwin, Rylan Erwin, Mitchell W. Mackey Jr., Chase Perrin and Joe Buck.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the David Puryear Center, 2806 Fox Meadow Ln, Jonesboro, AR 72404 or the Trinity Cemetery Fund C/O Ronald Coleman 116 Craighead 328 Bono, Arkansas 72416.
