Harris Gilliam

December 19, 1919 — May 20, 2008

Harris Gilliam, 88, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday at his home. Born in Alicia, he had lived in Jonesboro since 1964 and was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, CWL Board, HUD Board and the Jonesboro Housing Authority. He was the owner/operator of Gilliam-Horton Furniture Store in Jonesboro and a member of the Nettleton Church of Christ.

Mr. Gilliam is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Laura Gilliam & Michael Jones, Jonesboro; his sisters, Ellaine Collins, Jonesboro, Sue Milburn, Oklahoma; and his grandchildren, Maggie Jones and Seth Jones.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Catherine Gilliam on May 9, 2008; his parents, Clarence & Maggie Harris Gilliam; sister, Juanita McManus; brothers, Hubert Gilliam and Raymond Gilliam.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jimmy Young and Jimmy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery in Walnut Ridge. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Craig Gilliam, Stan Daniel, Jon Lewis, Bob Shankle, Tom Warmack, and Jim Montgomery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Keller, Members of the Kiwanis Club, Ron Stultz, and the men of Nettleton Church of Christ.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
