Harold G. “Smiley” Westbrook, 91, of Jonesboro passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Craighead Nursing Center.
Harold was born on March 30, 1925 in Benton to the late Emmett and Lovie McClain Westbrook. He served our country during World War II with the US Army, and he earned the following distinguished service Decorations; overseas stripes for European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, Battle Star (Bronze), Purple Heart, Expert Infantry Badge, and Good Conduct Medal. He was severely wounded on D-Day on Omaha Beach. He worked for several furniture companies throughout his career, and the last two he worked for was La-Z-Boy and Singer. He was a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnye Lou Westbrook; two brothers, James E. Westbrook Jr. and Raymond Westbrook; and sister, Virginia Carpenter. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be on Monday, August 1, 2016, at 2:30p.m. at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Chris Hemund officiating.
