Harold Price Hammett

Harold Price Hammett of Bay went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. As always in his life, he was blessed to be surrounded by family and friends.

Harold was born in Eastern Prentiss County, Mississippi on March 7, 1923. He worked in the shipyards of Connecticut and Mississippi after high school. He joined the Air Force during World War II and served proudly. A long-time resident of Bay, Arkansas, he was in the grocery and gas station business. He was extremely proud of his service to the Bay Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Fire Chief for twelve years.

Harold is survived by Hattie Spurlock Hammett, his loving wife of 29 years, and his devoted children: Brenda Glass (Dave) of Birmingham, Alabama, Bill Hammett (Donna) of Bald Knob, Arkansas, Paul Hammett (Lee Ann) of Savannah, Georgia, Mildred Hammett Jonesboro, Arkansas and step daughter Stacy Parks (Brad) of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Grandchildren include Jennifer Winstead (Chuck) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Heather Greer (Raymond) of Birmingham, Alabama, Anthony Hammett (Lindsey) of Lorton, Virginia, Lori Jones (Jason) of Cabot, Arkansas, Ryan Hammett (Sherri) of Austin, Texas, Donovan Hammett of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Wayne Hammett of Cabot, Arkansas, Jordan Parks ( Sarah) and Ethan Parks of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Thirteen great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins’, and friends brought great joy to Harold’s life.

As a family, we would like to express our deep appreciation to all of the people who have enveloped Harold in love and care over the past several weeks. A very special thanks to Harold’s nephew Jerry Yeager, for his faithful and loving care and ceaseless help over the past months.

A celebration of Harold’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Emerson Memorial Chapel. Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will include: Joe Yeager, Jerry Yeager, Fred Yeager, Lowell Hammett, Jason Hammett, Anthony Hammett, Ryan Hammett, Donovan Hammett, Wayne Hammett, and Jason Jones.

Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Bay Volunteer Fire Department. Burial will follow at Nettleton Cemetery.

A visitation will be from 1 until the beginning of the service.
