Harold Crall, 86, died on Monday, June 22, 2015, at St. Bernards Medical Center, following a short illness.
Harold was a life-long resident of Jonesboro. He attended the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and, after graduation, returned to Jonesboro to join his father in business. Mr. Merritt Crall owned and operated City Drug Store, then located on Main Street. City Drug Store gained a reputation for hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere which was distinctive after the business was moved to a new location at the corner of Church St. and Matthews Ave. The soda fountain became popular with customers of all ages, including a coffee round table of doctors and business men – and the younger crowd fondly remembers the drugstore as a place to hang out and eat cheeseburgers while skipping Sunday School.
Harold was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country in Korea as a member of the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, known as the MASH Unit. He was a member of the Valley View Church of Christ.
After his retirement, Harold and his wife, Doris, made traveling their hobby. They enjoyed trips to the 50 states and six continents. Harold liked history, and they toured all the Presidential Libraries and Museums with the exception of the Reagan Library. His deteriorating health prevented that trip from becoming a reality.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Merritt and Vivian Marcom Crall. Survivors include: Doris Crall, loving wife of 65 years; son, Dr. Doug Crall and wife, Liza of Louisville, Ky; daughter, Lynn Crall Parrish of Washington, D.C.; sister, Elizabeth Crall Smith and her husband, Rex, of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Jennie Shelburne of Midland, Texas, Matthew Crall of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Grace Crall of Little Rock, Anastasia Parrish of Washington, D.C.; one great grandchild, Lucy Shelburne, of Midland, Texas; three nieces, one nephew, five great nieces, and one great nephew, all of Houston, Texas.
Visitation will be Friday, June 26, 2015, at Emerson Funeral Home from 12:30-1:30 PM followed by a graveside service at City Cemetery at 2:00 PM with David Gibson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, mailing address 400 East St., Jonesboro, AR 72401 or to the charity of one’s choice.
