Greta Troutt, 89, died Thursday evening at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
She was the widow of John Troutt Jr., longtime publisher and owner of The Jonesboro Sun. She was very involved with the Foundation of the Arts and in her younger years she starred in several foundation productions including the role of Vera in Mame. She was a painter and a sculptor. Her works were well known among the local art circles.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family after John Jr. sold the newspaper and retired. She loved to tell of her many trips to London, England and the activities she participated in.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, John Edward Troutt and her mother, Clelia Robertson and a sister, Retta Holland. She is survived by one son, Bob Troutt (Pam) of Jonesboro and five grandchildren, Scott Troutt (Tiffany), Amanda Heringer (Brad), Aria Bennett, Mitchell Troutt and Jacob Troutt. She is also survived by five great-granddaughters, Greta Grace Troutt, Clara Troutt, Annette Troutt, Harper Heringer and Sarah John Heringer.
The family would especially like to thank the staff and caregivers with Visiting Angels for their years of Care. Additionally, a very special thank you is extended to the staff of St. Bernards Villas who, for the last three and one-half years provided extraordinary care and love to “Miss Greta.”
A memorial service will be held Monday, December 13 at 1 pm at the First Methodist Church Sanctuary. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held from 12 to service time at the church’s Atrium.
