Glenda Ruth Carr

Glenda Ruth Carr, age 90, passed away from this life March 19, 2024, in Biloxi, MS.  She was born January 10, 1934, in Black Oak, AR.

Glenda was married to Elbert Dean Carr for 69 years.   She leaves behind her daughter, Lou Ann (Mike) Edmonds and Son Mike (Tina) Carr of Long Beach, MS.   Glenda was a loving and precious Mamur to her four Grandchildren, Erik Edmonds and Mallory Edmonds of Mesa AZ, Chandler (Margaret) Carr of Long Beach MS and Ellen Carr of Brooklyn NY.  Great Mamur to Zoey, 10, William, 8 and Owen, 4 of Mesa AZ and Mary Micheal Carr, 4, of Long Beach, MS

Glenda is preceded in death by her loving husband, Elbert Dean Carr, of 69 years who passed away January 4, 2023.  Parents, Alfred and Stella (Fulbright) Johnson of Lafferty, AR, Her beloved Stepmother Ruby Johnson of Monette.   Her siblings Mary Karnes of Trumann, Jo Marley of Norfork, Bob Johnson of Zion and Tony Johnson of Little Rock.   She is survived by her sister Phyllis Wooten of Jonesboro.  Glenda had many nieces and nephews whom she adored.

Glenda was a member of the Nettleton Church of Christ for most of her adult life.  She worked for the Jonesboro Telephone Co. until she and Elbert decided to open Carr’s University Grocery across the street from the campus of Arkansas State University.   One of Glenda’s most proud moments was making the decision to open inside the store “What’s Cookin”.  It was a success and a friendly place to gather and eat home cooked meals.  After nearly 50 years in business, they sold the store in 2008.  In 2020 Glenda and Elbert moved to Long Beach, MS to be with their son Mike and their daughter-in-law Tina.

She will always be missed by her family and friends.   A Come and Go Memorial will be held at Emerson Funeral Home, 1629 E. Nettleton Ave.  Jonesboro, AR Saturday, April 13, 11:00 to 1:00pm.
