Glenda Shelton Capooth

Glenda Shelton Capooth, aged 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, AR. She was born on February 9, 1938, in New Albany, MS, to John and Maude Shelton (née Daniel), Following the end of WWIl, when Glenda was ten years old, she moved with her family to Darling, MS, a farming community in the Mississippi Delta. She played women's basketball in school and graduated from the Darling School in 1956. After graduation, Glenda worked for the Phillips Motor Company in Memphis, TN, before accepting a transfer to a bookkeeping position at the Phillip's dealership in Blytheville, AR, where she met her husband, Bill. They were married in 1962, and raised their family of four in Blytheville, where Glenda was a bookkeeper at Blytheville Water Works until her retirement in 2005. Following retirement, Glenda and Bill moved to Jonesboro and joined Cornerstone United Methodist Church, a congregation where they met many good friends. At the time of her death, Glenda was a member of Jonesboro First Church. Her family and friends remember fondly her love of church and volunteering, as well as her enjoyment of crocheting, knitting, playing with her card game group, reading, and Bible study.

Glenda was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Bill, and her brother, Dan Shelton. She is survived by her two children, Joy (Joe) Escue and Kasey (Laura) Capooth; her grandchildren Craig (Karen) Escue; Grace, Rose, and Will Capooth; and great-granddaughters, Willow and Navy Rose. All services are private; burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Jonesboro. To honor Glenda's legacy, donations to Cornerstone United Methodist, Jonesboro First Church or the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, all of Jonesboro, are welcomed in lieu of flowers.
