Glen McKay, Sr., 75, of Rector passed away April 29th, 2014 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Born April 12th, 1939 in Rector to Alva and Mable McKay, he was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters Hazel, Ethel, and Freeda; one brother Bill, and one grandson, Darrell Barton Jr.

Glen was a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Marmaduke, Arkansas. He also served as Training Union supervisor and Sunday school teacher at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in the early 80’s.

He retired from truck driving in 1985 after a career with Superior Forwarding and later Central Transport. In the early 80’s, Glen and his wife Ann Maynard, successfully opened and ran Ann’s Restaurant, a locally owned establishment that featured good southern home cooking in Jonesboro. Upon retirement, Glen was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed many expeditions out West, fishing trips with family, and his annual retreat to the deer camp with all the McKay men, where he enjoyed being the camp cook. Many memories were made in the miles of travels with his family in their pickup truck and pop-up camper.

Glen is survived by his children, Glen (Rhonda) McKay, Jr. of Batesville, Regina McKay, Shelby (Ben) Knight all of Jonesboro, and Vernon (Kimberly) McKay of Brookland. Brothers and sisters, Eloyce Barnhart of Clovis, California; Alva McKay of Scheller, Illinois; Ray (Leone) McKay of Park Hills, Missouri; Gene (Kathy) McKay of Clarkton, Missouri; Gladys (Al) of Meador, Bismarck Missouri; Joyce Jones of Hughes Arkansas.

Grandchildren Shauna Foster, Sara (Jim) Konermann, Cooper Shayne Sutton, Kaileigh Sutton, Bobby Martinez, Loriann Martinez, Hailey Knight, Jeremiah Knight, Lindsay (Tyler) McCarty, Alysha, Tucker, and Jenna McKay, and Claire Nickelson. Great grandchildren Railey and Addysin McLard, Edge, Kaitlyn, Jasper and Ian Foster, Chloe and Kayde Konermann, Aspyn Fowler, Rosie McCarty, and Andrew Martinez. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews that treasured their favorite Uncle Glen, several cousins, and many wonderful friends.
Visitation will be from 5-7 Friday night, May 2, 2014 at Emerson’s Funeral Home. Chapel services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Emerson’s with Brother Don Morris officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Cooper Shayne Sutton, David Foster, Bobby Martinez, Jeremiah Knight, Tyler McCarty, Tucker McKay and Glenn Douglass. Honorary pallbearers will be the devoted staff at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Paragould.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Belle Meade Christmas Fund, 1800 Linwood Drive, Paragould, Arkansas, 72450 or Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, 3001 GR 434 Road, Marmaduke, Arkansas, 72443. Interment will be held at Macedonia Cemetery.
