Geraldine Bennett Brewer

W. Geraldine Bennett Brewer of Jonesboro, born September 3, 1920, died at age 95 on Monday, May 30, 2016 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born in the Valley View Community to Homer and Clara Tannehill Bennett. She was a lifelong Jonesboro resident and since 1944 a member of Central Baptist Church where her children became Christians. She served in many leadership roles in Sunday school and the Woman’s Missionary Union. Her numerous volunteer activities included a special connection with ASU Baptist Student Union.

First United Methodist Church Learning Center enjoyed her teaching until she retired in 1997. Previously she had worked at Mother-to-Be, Cloud Nine, Perel and Lowenstein, and Brewer Enterprises.

Her lifelong pleasure was spending time with her family, church projects, gardening, traveling and Jonesboro Senior Citizens Club activities.

Survivors include her children: Harry O. "Danny"(Sandi) Brewer, Jr. of Jonesboro: Jerry Ann Hamill of Memphis, TN; and Jamie Petty (Dr. Charles Petty) of Raleigh, NC: seven grandchildren: ten great grandchildren: and Sister Betty (Bill) Trammell of Jonesboro.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil, Curtis, Lafayette and R.L. (Tommy) Bennett, and one sister, Grace Wiles.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 pm Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Emerson Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Reverend Mike Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Willis Brewer, Kyle Hamill, Anthony Petty, Jeremy Petty and grandsons-in-law: Lee Bateman and Chad Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters: Rachel Brewer Barnes, Lisa Hamill Bateman, and Cynthia Hamill Harris.

Lasting memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church in honor of her devoted Pastoral Care Pastor, the Reverend Mike Martin.
