George (Gene) Weir

George E. Weir (Gene) went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2022, at the blessed age of 95.  He was a long-time resident of Bay, AR, and a faithful member of Trinity/Awaken Church of Jonesboro, AR.

He was born September 26, 1926, to George Weir Sr. and Amelia Weir Edwards.  After his father’s death, he was raised by his mother and step-father Amelia, and Buford Edwards of Bay, AR.

Gene was married to the love of his life, Norma Childers Weir for 67 years.  Together they raised a family and served the Lord faithfully.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Weir Sr., Amelia Weir Edwards, and Buford Edwards. His beloved sister, Laverne (Bun) Bassett, his wife Norma Weir, and his son-in-law Danny Tharp.

He is survived by his children; George C. and Sandy Weir of Ashflat AR,  Marsha Tharp of Success, AR, Joe Ed and Donisha Weir of Bay, AR, Jeff and Michelle Weir of Bay, AR. His grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Heather Hodge, Aaron Weir, Kara McPhail, Tia Gagne, Joshua Gagne, Caleb Gagne, Lexi Crosby, Allison Austin, Bradley Weir, Isaiah Weir, Jordan Garner, Ashlyn Hewett, Hunter Shaw, Levi Garner, Noah McPhail, and Elijah McPhail.

Gene’s legacy is showing the world what salvation in Christ looks like lived and leaving a family that will continue in that legacy.

With Covid concerns in our area, the family wants it to be known that the care and condolences of friends and community are already felt.  So attendance is not necessary.  Please use your own discretion.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 17 from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro, AR.  A private graveside service will be at Jonesboro Memorial Park on Tuesday, January 18 at 10:30 AM.
