Gene Layne

January 30, 1929 — February 12, 2008

Gene O. Layne, 79, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at his home of natural causes.

Born in Trumann, Gene worked in Michigan and Florida, but lived most of his life in Jonesboro. He was a heavy equipment operator in road construction and was also a farmer. Gene was a member of Brookland Church of Christ and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, and was preceded in death by his parents: Floyd Layne and Elva Layne; a grandson: Kerry Brewington; by a son-in-law: Garry Brewington; by 3 sisters: Martha Lee Goodson, Ermaline Layne and Doris Shelton; and by 2 brothers: Merrill Layne and J.W. Layne,

Survivors include:
His wife of 59 years: Tommie Layne of the home;

1 son and daughter-in-law: Ronald and Alecia Layne of Bono;

2 daughters:
KaSandra Brewington and her fiancé, Freddie Shatsar both of Jonesboro, and
Debra and Mike Brady of Russellville;

9 Grandchildren, and
20 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:00 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with John Mark Wilson and Lance Guest officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons: Lynn Brewington, Marc Brewington, Matt Brady,
Gene Layne, Randy Layne and Aaron Dortch.

Honorary pallbearers will be great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, 6-8, at Emerson Funeral Home.
