Gene Hancock

August 28, 1935 — June 23, 2019

Gene Hancock of Fayetteville, Arkansas, previously from Jonesboro, Arkansas passed away on June 23, 2019 at the age of 83.  He was born August 28, 1935 in Wynne, Arkansas.  He is preceded in death by his father, Mr. L. D. Hancock and his mother, Mrs. Edna Palmer Hancock.  He is also preceded in death by his sister, Sarah “Myrtle” Duncan.     Gene is a graduate of West Memphis High School, class of 1953.  He attended both Memphis State University and Arkansas State University.  Gene is best known for infectious smile and positive attitude while being a businessman and real estate broker in Northeast Arkansas.  He started his banking and real estate career with Mercantile Bank not long after moving to Jonesboro from Memphis.  Then he found his true calling in Real Estate.  He was definitely known for his vast knowledge of the real estate laws.   Gene was broker and principal broker with a number of agencies before starting The Hancock Company Real Estate.

Gene is survived by a daughter, Tracey Hancock Anderson of Jonesboro, and her husband, Terry; a son, Scott Hancock of Fayetteville, and his wife Christie.  He has 4 grandchildren, Derrick Anderson, wife Kara of Jonesboro and Zachary Anderson, wife Megan of Hazen as well as Rylie and Cade Hancock of Fayetteville.  He is also survived by 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 27th at Emerson, 1629 East Nettleton Avenue from 5:00 – 7:00pm.  All other services will be private.
