Gene Griffey, Sr., 72, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, died Wednesday at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born in Jonesboro, Mr. Griffey lived in California and Alabama before returning to Jonesboro in 1970. He owned Griffey Insurance Agency and was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church where he formerly taught Sunday school.
Mr. Griffey was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and was a JP for the Craighead County Quorum Court. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and was preceded in death by a sister, Jeannette Cudd, and by a brother, Bobby Keith Griffey.

His wife: Mary Griffey of the home;
Daughter: Debbie Griffey of Dallas;
2 Sons and their wives: Gene, Jr. and Tammy Griffey of Lynn, and
Barry and Ashley Griffey of Greenbrier;
3 Sisters: Juna Pickering of Branson, Missouri, and
Joan Crocker, and
Estylene Dorton, both of Springfield, Missouri;
3 Brothers: Dewey Griffey, Jr. of Trenton, Michigan, and
Millis Griffey, and
Byron Griffey, both of Jonesboro.
Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at Jonesboro Memorial Park with Byron Griffey officiating with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge.
Pallbearers include: Dan Purnell, Nelson Oakley, Don Scruggs, Bob McGhee,
Mark Griffey, Jr., and Keith Hoover.
There will be no visitation.
