Gene Burrow

March 1, 1950 — November 10, 2024

Lester Eugene “Gene” Burrow, 74, of Paragould passed from this life Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was born March 1st, 1950 in Lorado to the late Lester Leland Burrow and Gladys Burrow.

In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mary Burrow.

Survivors include his daughters, Julie (Chad) Garrett and Sarah (Mark) Walker; sister, Kerron Smith; brothers, Donnie (Cleta) Burrow and Gary (Dennita) Burrow; grandchildren, Alex Walker, Ella Walker, CJ Garrett and Luke Garrett as well as several nieces and nephews.

Gene- or as he was known by those closest to him, Geno, Genie Beanie, or his favorite, Pa- was so many things to so many people. It can truly be said that Gene’s defining characteristic was his love of people.  He was an avid hunter in his younger days and loved fishing and running trot lines with his hunting and fishing buddies or his family.  He enjoyed spending time at the lake or camping, mostly to have big get-togethers with friends and family. Gene never met a stranger, always sharing stories with people about his love of old cars, Cardinal baseball, or oldies music. One of his greatest enjoyments, even through the end of his life, was to get together with friends and family and play Rook games, sometimes playing til all hours of the night.  Gene was also a hard worker and provider for his family, working for more than 40 years at Tenneco before retiring.  And Gene loved his wife Mary, his daughters Sarah and Julie, his grandkids Alex, Ella, CJ, and Luke, and all of his friends and family, sharing with them the most important gift that any of us can give to others: his time.

Jesus said in Matthew 22:37-39 that the greatest commandments that God gave us were to first love God and then to love others.  To be sure, Gene Burrow loved the Lord and proudly professed to know Him as Savior.  But so many times it’s easy to forget that 2nd commandment to love others. Gene Burrow never did.
