Gaylon M. Wimpy

January 29, 1940 — May 27, 2017

Gaylon "Pappy" Wimpy, 77, of the Valley View community, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Gaylon was born in Jonesboro and lived all of his life in Craighead County. He was a 1957 graduate of Valley View High School and a member of the Arkansas National Guard when it was activated to respond to the Little Rock Central High School integration crisis.

Gaylon was a third generation farmer and was twice named the Craighead County Farm Family of the Year: 1988 and 1993. He was baptized into the Church of Christ and was a member of the Valley View Ruritan Club. Gaylon served on the Boards of the Arkansas Watershed Association, the Craighead County Cattlemens Association and was past president of the Valley View Water Association.

Gaylon was preceded in death by his parents: Pervy A. and Willie Mae Holloway Wimpy;
5 brothers: D.C. Wimpy, Thad Wimpy, Archie Wimpy, Robert "Bob" Wimpy and James "Pete" Wimpy; 2 sisters: Minnie Lou Reddick and Marcelle Agee; and step daughter Amy Barker Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Wimpy of the home;
2 sons and spouses: Mark and Belinda Wimpy, and Perry and Tina Wimpy, all of Jonesboro;
2 step sons and spouse: Jason Barker of Bono, and Drew and Amy Barker of Jonesboro;
1 brother and spouse: Paul and Opaline Wimpy of Jonesboro;
2 sisters and spouse: Lucille Wimpy, and Kathleen and Jim Berry, all of Jonesboro;
2 granddaughters and spouse: Haley Wimpy Fitzgerald and husband Tim and Hannah Wimpy;
8 step grandchildren and spouse: Amber Smithee, Kaley Hawkins, Hannah and Shane Hardin, Paysli Jo Barker, Austin Barker, Kanyon Barker, Dakota Barker and Brock Barker;
3 great grandchildren: Ava Fitzgerald, Lane Fitzgerald and Cole McGhehey; and
3 great step grandchildren: Maci Hardin, Renee Hardin and Ian Hardin.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jerry Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Kellers Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from
12:30 p.m.until service time in the chapel.

Pallbearers include Kim McDaniel, Steve Williams, Kevin Carpenter, Wesley Mills, Jerry Tubbs and Lance Ramthun.
