Gary Wayne Johnson, 61, of Jonesboro, died Saturday at his home. He had lived in Jonesboro for 13 years having moved here from Osceola. Gary was a teacher of business classes for Rivercrest Junior and Senior High Schools. He had taught for 25 years. He enjoyed collecting items like coins, marbles, and ships in bottles. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Gary is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara Johnson; son and daughter-in-law, Tony & Ginger Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, Tonya & Ronnie Fox; his grandchildren, Kristine LeighAnne Fox, Timothy Wayne Fox, Mace Andrew Johnson; his mother, Josie Katherine Johnson, all of Jonesboro; a brother Rick Johnson; and a sister Jeannette Johnson Cornelison.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred H. Johnson; and a brother, Randy Johnson.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mitch Ford officiating. The eulogy will be presented by Rick Johnson. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery, with military honors. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Tony Johnson, Ronnie Fox, Rick Johnson, Ronnie Parnell, Johnny Fox, and Lance Meadows. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Burdin and Bob Bullinger.

Visitation will be Tuesday 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
