Gary Brant Romec

July 14, 1950 — April 22, 2018

Gary B. Romec, age 67 passed away from this life on Sunday, April 22, 2018 after a long hard fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Gary was born on July 14, 1950 in Morgantown, WV, but was a resident of Jonesboro for twelve years.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix Romec and Ercel Lee; brothers, Joe, Wayne, and Ron Lee and sisters, Barb Mayfield, Phyllis Shiel and Beatrice Kremer.

Gary is survived by his wife of 38 years, Yvette, daughter Kerri Cowgill (Jason), a son, Brent Romec and a son Michael Gorge and a sister Theresa Balasko.  He was the proud “Papa” to nine grandchildren, Emily, Katie, Jordan, Marcus, Cooper, Peyton, Ben, Bella and Matthew.

Gary was an Army veteran who served in the 9 th infantry during the Vietnam War.  After his service in the military, he went to work for the US Bureau of Prisons, having served at several duty stations across the country.  He retired from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center as a firearms instructor in Glynco, Georgia.

In October 2017, Gary was inducted into the Buffalo Central Veterans Hall of Fame.  He was also a Master Mason and a member of F & AM Rush Lodge #715 in Ashland, Kentucky.

Gary was an avid fisherman.  Every fish he caught was always the “biggest” one as far as he was concerned.

Gary was a wonderful, sweet, loving husband.  He was kind and generous to everyone.  He will be dearly missed by all of us.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 5 th at 4:00 pm at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charlie Sigman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the memorial donations can be made in Gary’s behalf to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association and the SPCA.
